Audio Walking Tour ~ Glow Worm Tunnel

The Brief

The Glow Worm Tunnel, in Wollemi National Park on Wiradjuri Country, is a 387-metre abandoned railway tunnel, built in the early 1900s. Today, it forms part of a walking track that links the Newnes Plateau with the Wolgan Valley and onto the historic mining town and ruins of Newnes.

As part of the 2024 track upgrade, NPWS engaged Juicy Projects to create an immersive audio walking tour, layered with voice, soundscapes and interp, to tell the rich and diverse story of the tunnel.

Housed within the NPWS app, the 10-stop self-guided audio tour, leads visitors along the walking track and through the tunnel, providing them with an entertaining and informative guide, voiced by a warm and friendly ‘tour guide’, who introduces them to experts and interesting facts along the way.

From the lives of the railway workers who built the 51 km railway to the delicate and fascinating world of glow worms and much more, the production of this audio tour received high praise from the client to become the NPWS benchmark for similar projects.
