Mini-Documentary

The greatest aviation mystery Australia has ever seen

The Brief

The disappearance of Cessna VH-MDX in August 1981 is the greatest aviation mystery Australia has ever seen.

It was flying from Coolangatta to Bankstown, over the rugged and remote Barrington Tops National Park, when it disappeared from radar. It’s the only aircraft with people on board to go missing on Australian territory, and is yet to be found. Five men were onboard.

Since the initial search in 1981, a mix of professional land search organisations, such as the NSW Police and Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad (now called SES Bush Search and Rescue) have continued the search.

This mini-documentary tells the story of the disappearance and some of the people determined to bring about a conclusion.
