The Brief
In a country like Australia, with its profound Aboriginal history, my journalistic curiosity was aroused when I realised there were so few multi-day walks-on-Country with Traditional Owners.
What started as an extended listicle for Great Walks Magazine, developed further into a feature with Wild Magazine to ask the tough questions of why and listen to the even tougher answers.
Spending time journeying the wukalina Walk (lutruwita/Tasmania), one of only four owned-and-operated Aboriginal multi-day guiding companies in Australia, I listened, asked, sat and walked through just some of the complex issues involved.
The Walking on Country article for Wild Magazine, is a finalist in the 2022 Australian Society of Travel Writers Awards for Excellence, for Best Sustainable Tourism Story.
