The Anatomy of a Search

The Brief

Wild Magazine has been the leader in Australian Adventure, Conservation and Wilderness publications since 1981.

The challenge of writing about real issues and experiences, particularly those with sensitive topics, is the need to fictionalise true stories and facts. In approaching this feature for Wild Magazine, I created the character of Dave, based on the demographic of Wild readership, along with statistics that point to solo male adventures being one of the most-represented groups in land search.

Weaving between two different time frames, culminating in the collision of two narratives and the characters of the rescued and the rescuers, brings to light the seen and unseen of rugged and remote land search and rescue in NSW. Read the article here.
